APOPHIS II: MY GARDEN

E.E. Jacks - Original Art Work - Oil Painting

I was walking
Talking to the trees
Drinking the remnants
Remembering the oxygen in my lungs from before
Sleeping in those dreams
In those forgotten ashes
We called poems
I heard the wind
The cryosphere crumbling
“Where is the astronaut?
Excuse me.
Yes?
Do you have the chemicals I need?
Yes.”
I’ve seen things
Extraordinary things
Do not bless me
For I have held the hands of earth
Sacred Dew and sacred stone
I’ve wandered beneath the second sun
I left the dust and quiet chords
I have begun the pushing
The planting of weeds
For my garden grows from need
From cold earth
Tangled roots and requirement
The pact I’ve made will bring shade
Shores and pathways
Verdant hallways
I’ve spoken to Heather
Sequoia
Cedar and Sea
We all agree
We are young
We must be free
To sculpt
Our own
