In “The Garden” layers of vibrant colors converge to depict the life and wisdom of my mother through the years. 

Inspired alongside a poem I wrote for my mother, the painting weaves together elements of growth and insight, mirroring her nurturing spirit that brings forth life from unexpected places. Abstract imagery of small birds emerging from stones symbolizes her ability to see possibilities where others see none. The green of ancient fig trees evokes a timeless wisdom, echoed in the dreams of Rousseau and the essence of Durango. 

As I work, I envision her ancestral home, painted walls, and the taste of Frutas de Mazapán, weaving memories into every brushstroke. "The Garden" is both a tribute and a journey, capturing the essence of maternal strength and the beauty found in life. 

My mother brings forth small birds
From small stones
She sees all of the tomorrow's
And I too see the future
In old veins and even older fig trees
Rousseau too
He dreamt of the place my mother was born
Beneath the boughs
Beneath the clouds
He lived
He slept
Durango dreams
I will go there to find my mother’s house
To touch the painted walls
I will go to find the nuns
To taste
The Frutas de Mazapán
